Barlaston First School Visit
BTEC Sports and BTEC Sports & Exercise Science Students spent a week at Barlaston First School delivering fun and interactive PE sessions for their pupils. As aspiring future sports coaches and PE teachers, our students were given the opportunity to deliver PE sessions as part of their personal development within their studies.
The aim was to get children up and moving by making exercise as fun as possible so as to encourage activity in the younger generations; all whilst our Sixth Form Students gained necessary skills in delivering and leading activity sessions.
Testing their organisation, planning and confidence, our students had to design and deliver a PE session suited to children aged 5-10 years old which was engaging, interactive and above all else fun!
As a student on our Sport & Leisure pathway, not only do students gain the opportunity to train and learn in state of the art facilities (thanks to partnerships with Staffordshire University and Fenton Manor). They are also able to put theory into practise throughout their studies through various coaching placements in primary schools, high schools, academies and clubs in the community, which help to acquire valuable experience whilst working towards their qualifications.
Kaitlin Eccleston first year BTEC Sport & Exercise Science Student commented on the visit ‘I have loved being able to lead sessions for younger students. It’s opened my eyes to other career routes that I could pursue once I have completed my studies.
I had originally planned to pursue Physiotherapy as a career, but after having such a good experience teaching at a Primary School, I have decided to research entry paths into teaching Physical Education.’
