Course Overview

Have you ever wanted to create your own imaginative dances and to explore the movement style of famous choreographers through the analysis of fascinating dance works?

Are you ready to develop your technical and expressive dance skills to an advanced level and to participate in a range of performances both in and out of College? If so, this could be the course for you!

You will participate in a variety of workshops provided by cutting edge professional dance artists and form your own dance company performing both in and out of College. You will develop your skills in performance, choreography style, culture and notation.

The creative, co-operative and communication skills acquired in following this course also prove attractive to a wide range of employers and higher education.

Where Courses Become Careers

A Level Dance is suitable for anyone wanting to pursue the arts or dance in higher education and who wants to become a ‘thinking dancer’. It will support any future course requiring good communication and group work skills.

Past students have gone onto study at London Contemporary Dance School, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, London Studio Centre and Doreen Bird College of Dance.

There are many routes into a career in dance, and opportunities to demonstrate entrepreneurship and forge unique career pathways.

Careers include: performing, teaching, supporting professions, choreography. Past students are now engaged in successful performing based dance careers whilst others have pursued successful teaching careers in schools, colleges and universities.

A Level Dance will develop attributes such as creativity, communication and a lifelong love of learning. Students will enhance their confidence and gain practical performance experience throughout the year by participating in shows at The Rep, The Regent, the Victoria Hall Theatre, College events and collaborative events with feeder schools.

Students will have an opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience through a Dance Leadership Programme developed by the Curriculum Manager and the South Stoke Sport Partnership. A-Level Dance students will choreograph works in a series of local primary schools in preparation for the 2018 Dance Festival at the Victoria Hall Theatre.
