It Takes Someone Kind to ‘Move for Mind’
Sixth Form College student sets out to run 100 miles in just 30 days to raise money for mental health charity, Mind.
Not only is the world battling the Coronavirus pandemic it is also facing a major mental health crisis. Mind is a national run charity which provides advice and support to empower those experiencing mental health difficulties. The charity campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding but they can only do this with support from people across the nation.
During Lockdown 3.0, Mind has created a 30-day challenge for its supporters called ‘Move for Mind’. The challenge aims to get supporters active by allowing people to choose how they move and to set their own distance goals in order to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
Sixth Form College student, Josef Eckert has risen to the challenge and set himself the goal to run an incredible 100 miles in just 30 days. Josef plans to run around his local area daily, recording the distance of each run on Strava.
Second-year student Josef said “With another national lockdown being imposed, many people who have struggled with their mental health previously are suddenly finding the battle increasingly difficult to overcome. For the next 30 days, I’m running 100 miles around my local area to hopefully play a role in the fight against mental health.”
Staff at the Sixth Form College are astounded by this selfless act and what Josef has set out to achieve for such a worthy cause.
David Hardwick, Health, Wellbeing and Sport Coordinator at the Sixth Form College commented: “I think it is amazing that Joe is using Lockdown 3.0 to keep active and get fitter all whilst raising vital funds for such a great cause.”
Josef has set up a fundraising page with a target of £150 and with the support of family and friends he has already raised 10% above this target, achieving an impressive £165.
Josef has only just set out on his mission and has many miles yet to run, he may have achieved his targeted amount of funds for Mind but he would like to raise as much as possible. He said “It would be fantastic to raise as much as possible for mental health charity, Mind. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.”
