Since the beginning of December, Staff and students at the Sixth Form College have been donating food, drink and toiletry items to support local charity, The Hubb Foundation. Every Christmas the Sixth Form College will choose a local charity/charities to support. Staff and students were invited to help with donations and collections.

After such an unpredictable year, college Christmas committee staff wanted to help local families struggling to provide meals over the festive period and beyond. Staff choose The Hubb foundation after recognising the huge efforts they have gone to recently to feed families during the pandemic.

The Hubb Foundation was founded in 2018 and has been providing free holiday activities and nutritious meals in schools and community centres throughout Stoke-on-Trent. Since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in March, food became an important focus and the charity has delivered more than 170,000 meals to families in need. This Christmas, the charity is appealing for toys, presents for adults and food for families.

From the 1st – 16th December, the Sixth Form College promoted their Reverse Advent Calendar appeal and set a stand up in the atrium next to reception. Appealing to their caring staff and students to kindly donate any non-perishable food and drink items and toiletries.

The Hubb Foundation noticed the appeal from the Sixth Form College on social media. Martin Tideswell, Trustee of The Hubb Foundation retweeted a college post saying “Brilliant. Thanks to @SOT6FC on behalf of everyone @HUBBFoundation (I’m very proud to be an ex student).

The response has been phenomenal seeing both crates full of a range of items that any age and any family can enjoy this Christmas.

Emily Shaw, HR assistant at the Sixth Form College and Reverse Advent Calendar lead commented “We always like to support local charities and this year it has been even more important than ever.”
