Female Football Team Crowned League Champions
The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College is celebrating a landmark moment as our female football team has been crowned league champions following a thrilling 6–3 victory over Burnley FC in a March fixture.
This monumental win caps off a phenomenal season, with the team finishing top of a fiercely contested division that includes sides affiliated with Premier League clubs such as Everton and Manchester City. Over the course of the campaign, our squad lost just one game and delivered standout performances week after week.
The players are proud members of our Sport Academy. Through our Female Football Performance Academy, run in association with Stoke City Football Club, students can study any course at the college while also training and competing at a high level in football — offering a truly unique pathway for talented young athletes.
In the final fixture, the girls took to the pitch with real determination, knowing that a victory would seal the title. Their hard work paid off in a commanding display that showcased their attacking flair, discipline, and hunger to succeed.
The players have shown unwavering commitment, teamwork and resilience throughout the season. Second-year student, captain and central midfielder Layla Kennerley reflected:
I’m proud to be part of the team and to see how far we’ve come in the last two years.
Full-back and second-year student Olivia Nixon added:
Happy to have played with them for two years and proud to have won the league.
Left-winger and first-year student Brook Gater shared an inspiring message:
Success is not just about what you accomplish in your life; it’s about what you inspire others to do. Keep pushing, and victory will follow.
David Hardwick, Sport, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, commented:
The players have worked incredibly hard both on and off the pitch, showing a level of dedication and maturity beyond their years. I couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come – they thoroughly deserve this title.”
“A huge thank you also goes to the fantastic coaches from Stoke City FC, whose expertise, commitment and passion have been instrumental in the team’s development. Their input has been invaluable, and we’re grateful to have them supporting our programme.
The college is extremely proud of the entire squad and coaching staff for their dedication, talent and sportsmanship. Congratulations to everyone involved – League Champions 2025!
