Sixth Form College Awarded Prestigious Music Mark for Excellence in Music Education
The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College is thrilled to announce that they have been awarded Music Mark School status following a nomination from their local music hub. This prestigious accolade celebrates the college’s commitment to providing high-quality music education. The recognition is awarded to schools that show a strong dedication to promoting music, whether by enriching the curriculum, developing extra-curricular music programmes, or supporting a thriving music department.
Music Mark is a respected membership organisation and charity that advocates for inclusive and excellent music education across the UK. By being awarded, the college joins a select group of institutions acknowledged for their efforts to enrich students’ learning through music, nurturing creativity, teamwork, and confidence. The nomination serves as a testament to the college’s vision of making music education a central part of its ethos and curriculum offering.
Anna Hughes, Teacher of Music at the Sixth Form College, shared her excitement at the nomination:
This recognition is a real honour and reflects the incredible work done by both our students and staff. We believe music plays a vital role in education, helping students to develop not only their musical skills but also their personal and social abilities. Being nominated as a Music Mark School affirms our commitment to building a vibrant and supportive music culture here at the college.
The college has consistently provided a range of opportunities for students to engage with music, both within and beyond the classroom. Initiatives offered such as the Potteries Music School where they invite students from across the city who play an instrument or are studying GCSE music to attend weekly lessons at the college, with the added benefit of free exam entry for music theory grades (Grade 5 and above).
From BTEC and A Level music courses to various ensembles and performances, the music department has developed into a vibrant hub of creativity and collaboration. Achieving Music Mark status will further enhance the college’s profile, providing even more opportunities for students to engage in high-level music education.
The Music Mark School status is valid for one academic year, and the college is excited to continue working closely with its local music hub to offer enriching musical experiences. This nomination not only recognises past achievements but also opens doors for future growth in music education, ensuring that students will continue to benefit from a strong and supportive environment for their musical development.
The college looks forward to continuing its journey as a centre for musical excellence, encouraging students to explore, perform, and excel in the arts.
